new Blender3D workstation
Sunday, November 28th, 2010I read on one of my recently visited website “The Ultimate Guide to Buying a Computer for Blender“. You may read this anyway.
But as they are talking about a Windows7 workstation, it was not that interesting to me.
I build my own workstation two weeks ago.
Here’s my hardware:
Graphic card: Gainward GTX-460 GLH 1GB DDR5, PCI-E 2.0 x16
Processor: Intel Core i7 950 BOX, 3.06 GHz, LGA 1366, 4C/8T
Main board: Asus P6X58D-E, Intel X58
Ram: Corsair CMX4GX3M2A2000C9, 2×2 GB, DDR3-2000
Tower: Lian Li PC-A05NB Midi Tower – black
Power supply: Seasonic S12II-430 (SS-430GB) Bronze – 430 Watt
Hard disc: Western Digital Caviar Blue, 7200rpm, 16MB, 500GB
It run’s Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. And yes, I’m happy with it. It’s quit funny to buy your OS at a kiosk because you’re to lazy for a download. The installation run really smoothly, also this is my first computer I build up on my own. The cost of my hardware was about 1000 Euros and handful swiss francs for the OS.
I plan to replace the hard disc with a flash disc.
